CHARLOTTE, NC (May 10, 2022) – Before seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and NTT INDYCAR Series driver Jimmie Johnson makes his rookie debut in the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 later this month, he hosted the 15th Annual Jimmie Johnson Foundation (JJF) Golf Tournament, presented by Carvana, at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C. The event was followed by a private concert featuring The Avett Brothers at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Among the golfers who played 18 holes on the 2022 Presidents Cup course, were several golf teams from Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, and the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s men’s golf team. At the Fillmore, a live auction hosted by ESPN’s Marty Smith and Taylor Zarzour kicked off the evening before the Avett’s took stage and played for 90 minutes in front of a sold-out crowd.

Today, Johnson, his wife Chandra, and JJF Executive Director, Alicia Morris Rudd announced the event raised more than $950,000.

“The golf tournament was an incredible success, and I am so thankful for all those who turned out to support the Jimmie Johnson Foundation,” said Johnson. “We couldn’t have done it without our partners Carvana, Ally, cbdMD among many others. A very special thanks to Quail Hollow for allowing us to host the tournament and to my friends The Avett Brothers. They put on an amazing show – it was truly a special evening for all of us.”

All funds raised through the JJF directly benefit the foundation’s mission to assist children, families, and communities in need. The Foundation currently focuses on K-12 public and charter schools in California, North Carolina, and Oklahoma through the Champions Grant program. These grants provide support in the following areas: science & technology, language & literacy, health & wellness, school improvement & infrastructure, and the arts. To date, North Carolina public schools have received $2.4 million in grants, and the annual golf tournament has raised more than $10 million in fifteen years.

“We are very grateful for our event sponsors and supporters that made the golf tournament and concert possible,” said Morris Rudd. “We were able to bring together our supporters, local high school golf teams, and representatives from schools who have received the JJF Champions Grants in past years. We’re so proud of what we were able to accomplish in one day and look forward to giving back to the communities we live in and love.”
